INTRODUCTION TO GENITAL INFECTION

Male Candidiasis: Although a common fungal infection in women, candida may also affect male. The fungus lives on the human skin and when there is an overgrowth due to various reasons, the patient experiences the symptoms. The risk of male candidiasis increases with diabetes, increased use of antibiotics, steroidal administration, weak immune system or taking immunosuppressant drugs and poor hygiene. Symptoms experienced by the people suffering from male candidiasis are small papules around the penis, itching, and soreness on penile skin, discharge under the foreskin and there is a difficulty in pulling back the foreskin. The fungal infection cause on the penile skin by candida balanitis is also known as a penile yeast infection.
Posthitis: Inflammation of the foreskin of the penis is known as posthitis while inflammation of the rounded penile head is known as balanitis. When both the conditions are present simultaneously, it is known as balanoposthitis. The risk of developing balanoposthitis is high in uncircumcised males as there is no foreskin. However, following proper hygiene of the foreskin, the risk of posthitis, balanitis and balanoposthitis can be significantly reduced. Patients with posthitis may experience swelling and redness of the foreskin and penile discharge.
Inflammatory dermatoses: Dermatoses in male genital area results in skin rashes, itching, and lesions. The reason for dermatoses may either be confined to the genital area or as a result of a generalized condition such as psoriasis. The patients are presented with ulceration, phimosis, paraphimosis, and pruritis while consulting the doctor for dermatoses. The foreskin is in contact with a wide variety of substances such as urine, sweat, moisture, and microbes. This results in inflammation of foreskin which may progress to develop lesions.
Epididymitis: Epididymitis is the condition occurs due to the development of inflammation in the epididymis. In most cases, the cause of this condition is a bacterial infection. The bacterial infection generally are sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia or gonorrhea. A patient suffering from epididymitis experiences painful urination, blood from semen and penile discharge. The condition can be diagnosed with imaging techniques such as ultrasound and through blood and urine tests.
Orchitis: Orchitis is the inflammation of testicles. The condition can be caused by bacteria or virus. Simultaneous inflammation of epididymis and testicles is known as epididymo-orchitis. Orchitis may involve in male infertility. The condition may affect one or both the testicles. Patients suffering from orchitis experience pain and swelling in testicles, nausea and vomiting and fever. Mumps virus is one of the common viral infections that may cause orchitis. Bacterial infection causing orchitis includes sexually transmitted infections and urinary tract infections.

Anorgasmia: Inflammation in the penile region may also lead to anorgasmia. This condition is characterized by lack of achieving orgasm in spite of sufficient stimulation.
Ejaculation problems: Poor penile health may lead to ejaculatory disorder. The patient may have painful ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, premature ejaculation, and retrograde ejaculation.
